The United States also uses corn syrup because of money. Our price of sugar is artificially higher than most of the rest of the world's, and the price of corn is kept artificially low. It's all a money issue, it has NOTHING to do with health.
It's always about money, even in Europe.

We're not talking about the government here.

Second of all, it's a matter of creating value. From each as they choose, to each as they are chosen.
How does that create "value" and what is "value" in the first place?

EDIT - That was a waste of a 1,000th post.

Neither is overhauling the entire electricity infrastructure.

Neither system is objectively superior. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. If a new system were designed today, both systems would probably be discarded.

Europe could certainly do better than 50Hz, but the cost of overhauling their entire system isn't worth it.

HFCS requires less energy to metabolize, therefore supplies more net energy than sucrose does. Fructose bypasses a few regulatory enzymes in the metabolism of glucose, leading to a situation where the body goes into energy surplus very easily. This leads to storage, also known as putting on fat.

It's also much easier to shove into other foods as a flavor enhancer than sucrose is.

Govt: Medicare paid $47 billion in suspect claims - Yahoo! News

If the healthcare bill will cost 1 trillion over 10 years, then that's 100 billion yearly. So, theives steal 1/2 of that each year through healthcare fraud. Stop healthcare fraud, and you've got half the healthcare system paid for right there. This is something that is bi-partisan that both parties could easily get behind, so you can draw your own conclusions as to why healthcare fraud isn't taking up the majority of politicians' time spent on healthcare reform...

Edit - doh! Sorry, forgot to carry the 1. Math is fixed. I must've been thinking Austin Powers math.
