"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Apparently Orchestra is the most "diverse" class in our school. I have no idea how whoever came up with that did. It's 50% white, 40% asian (Indian included), with the rest being other sundries.

"should there be"? pride is a concept. it barely "exists" in the first place, so how could we discuss whether it should?

i noticed that "white" pride seems to be understood as that of skin color, while black pride is understood as love for a culture.

Yeah, just like black history month. If they wanted people to know about it they should've just taught it in school. What I learned in high school about black african-americans was pretty much summed up in short bio's of Lincoln and MLK Jr, with a few tidbits on Carver and a few others. Horribliy inadequate.
