Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize | Reuters

At first, I thought this was an Onion article, But no, this is Reuters, and there are others.

Nobel Peace Prize Is Awarded to President Obama (Update2) - Bloomberg.com

I'm still letting things sink in...
Okay, I support Obama, but this seems out of place on so many levels. Is he going to get an Oscar, too? And what will he do with the prize money? Things like this kind of embarrass me.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

Just so everyone is clear with this, we swedes had nothing to do with it! The Peace Prize is given by the norwegians. Stupid norsemen. Of course it could be seen as a kick in the arse to actually go out and do something instead of just living the good life and make pretty speeches.

'for giving the world "hope for a better future"

Really? No, like fucking really?! First of all, their giving this thing out to people for giving others "hope"?! Wow thats a new one. And second of all...um when did that exactly happen? I definitely think he was better than the oppistion as choice in say choosing between the devil and the anti-christ. Definitely the better of two evils, but the guy does far from "give me hope for a better future". If anything its no longer seeming like such a coincidence that his re-election will take place right before the 2012 end of the world crap...everything is suddenly a little clearer....

I like Obama, but an after presidency award would've seemed more fitting. I thought it was a joke when I saw it this morning too. Wonder why I thought it was a joke....
There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

For real? What exactly has he done that deserves a NPP? I hope it's a joke.

eta: read the article, I guess it's not a joke. I think it's a sad choice, just because it seems like you can just "encourage" peace to get it (or be popular?). Do they give PP like that often?

Yeah, I got one two years ago for farting the Star Spangled Banner at a Little League game.

I got a standing ovation and everything.

I love Slate: What Obama Should Do With His Nobel Peace Prize

Turn it down! Politely decline. Say he's honored but he hasn't had the time yet to accomplish what he wants to accomplish. Result: He gets at least the same amount of glory--and helps solve his narcissism problem and his Fred Armisen ('What's he done?') problem, demonstrating that he's uncomfortable with his reputation as a man overcelebrated for his potential long before he's started to realize it. ... Plus he doesn't have to waste time, during a fairly crucial period, working on yet another grand speech. ... And the downside is ... what? That the Nobel Committee feels dissed?
