Why did parents send their children to Michael Jackson even after kids were paid off in molestation cases? No one is stupid enough to send their young teenage girl unaccompanied to a house with adult men. The parent(s) should be there with their child on a photoshoot.

    Agreed.

In other news, seems like the swiss aren't showing him much sympathy. (Nor should they, IMO.)

A poem about Roman Polanski, by Calvin Trillin:

    A youthful error? Yes, perhaps.
But he's been punished for this lapse--
    For decades exiled from LA
He knows, as he wakes up each day,
He'll miss the movers and the shakers.
He'll never get to see the Lakers.
For just one old and small mischance,
He has to live in Paris, France.
He's suffered slurs and other stuff.
Has he not suffered quite enough?
How can these people get so riled?
He only raped a single child.
Why make him into some Darth Vader
    For sodomizing one eighth grader?
This man is brilliant, that's for sure--
    Authentically, a film auteur.
He gets awards that are his due.
    He knows important people, too--
    Important people just like us.
And we know how to make a fuss.
    Celebrities would just be fools
To play by little people's rules.
    So Roman's banner we unfurl.
He only raped one little girl.
The one who buggers a fire burns his penis

    Yes. Simone is quite correct.
    She usually was.

I would not have understood if I had not read her book.
It was the early 70s. I lived in Israel at the time, I had a short time in Helsinki.
My mother was off to Spain, I lodged in her apartment.
I first checked her books, of course.
Most of it was quite boring. Literature and blah blah.

I stopped searching when I found the Second Sex.
A rational survey about the experience of a woman.
If it had been a sentimental book, I would have missed the point.

The Second Sex should be compulsory reading for boys, in every high school.
    It is all there.

Is is therefore we are in Afghanistan.

After 30 years the Media Circus has rolled into town and Ms Geimer has been given the role of leading lady, whether she likes it or not.

And exactly what is the public interest in Polanski's prosecution? Because it certainly is not for the benefit of Ms Geimer, who long ago stopped being a victim.

But the boys haven't quite finished with her yet. They need her to be the victim, just one more time. For the cameras.

As for Polanski, he's just a bone for the dog.

So if he had been apprehended regretfully, with tears of apology and much goodwill, and was brought before a judge only with considerable misgivings and for form's sake, justice would then have been served?

Whether he was or not you may never know. The Swiss know about discretion. It's their trademark.
