Those assholes give the child rapist a standing ovation at the Oscars to make a point about his "unfair" treatment, yet they also made a point to remain seated when Elia Kazan got his lifetime achievement award. Screw 'em.

Germans...pfft. They're always trying to bury the past.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Civil law is still law - and they nailed him big time. Besides, OJ was more symbolic than anything. It sucks that our nation's history is so screwed up that a cold-blooded killer got away with criminal murder charges simply because the jury wanted to show the rest of us what injustice felt like. It sucks even more that I think they're entirely justified.

    Good points!
Hopefully you won't lose too much sleep over your conflicting ideologies.

At this point I think it's more about being a dick and running and hiding for thirty years. If he'd faced up to what he did at the time, this would have blown over fairly quickly. The woman's, like, forty-five now. She has long since said "whatever" and forgiven him.

Fucking a thirteen-year-old -- yeah, it was amazingly stupid and icky, but at this point it's kind of a non-issue. You know, it happened. Nobody actually cares anymore. Not dealing with the repercussions -- that's a much bigger problem. And he set a terrible example.

Heh - no conflict here. Different shades of meaning are just that. One relatively small tragedy versus 400 years of continuous atrocities.
