I'm very partial to your theory here.

Odd. Drug theory sounds reasonable though...

    No they're not.

Americans are far too well-off at the moment to just spontaneously erupt into the type of action that would change anything at such a level. It would take something pretty substantial to get the common man sufficiently agitated to defy the entire system. Fringe types sure, but fringe types are few in number, loud, and disregarded as crazies.

Oh, oh, oh - it was a revolution of the bourgeoise against the rightful authority of the Sovereign.

The bourgeoise replaced royalty as the rightful authority. Just as that same bourgeoise remains the rightful authority today.

However having carried out one successful revolution against rightful authority, the bourgeoise are forever afraid the proletariat will carry out a successful revolution against the rightful authority of the them, the bourgeoise.

That is why you are ruled by two Parties of Business, that is, bourgeois Parties. And that is why the business of America is business. And that is why the Unions have been neutered and stopped from forming a Social Democratic Party.

    The bourgeois revolution rules, OK?

The bourgeois had been in partial control of British society ever since the English Civil War - it was just that traditional forms made it seem as if nobles had any power whatsoever.

The men who took over the US were the landed gentry, who were as close to nobility in this country as has ever been seen. Capital didn't control the cogs of government until after the American Civil War; too much power was concentrated in the hands of landowners, which in European terms equals the nobility.

Coffee maybe - I've seen people get pretty grouchy when they go without their daily cuppa.

Beer no - People would just brew it illegally, or find something else to drink.

Cigarettes yes - Do *not* get between an addict and his fix.

I think we're in a dark age, and we'll have a cultural revolution in a generation or two.
