Default The Decade is almost over

What do you think it'll be remembered for?

Keep in mind that this is about the decade as a whole and not just 2001.

A major increase in authoratative interest in climate change.

Significant sings of the onset of an energy crises relating to fossil fuel dependence.

Major events in the USA's decline in relative power, and the flattening of the international system.

    And yes, it's true...

9/11 and the war on terrorism.

    The financial crisis.

In some places, like the USA and England, not to mention a lot of Africa, Obama getting elected is going to be a big deal.

The success of Boston's professional sports teams
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    War on Terrorism.

    Poor leadership before Obama.

    This economic recession.

    Swine Flu.

Obama's election. Definitely one of the most memorable points of our decade (whether you like him or not, it's historic and should be remembered.)

Eyes shift to climate issues, economy starts to pull over a green tarp.

    DEATH TO REPUBLICANS!

America's values shift from being strictly self-centered to open and more seeing to the world, it's problems, and the people less fortunate who are calling out.

And of course the tragic 9/11.

Whether you believe in anything that has happened to be right or wrong, it happened, it's important, and should be approached with reverence.
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

The rise in social networking (facebook, twitter, etc), the first real surge of interest in energy efficiencies (hybrid cars, alternative energies), the start of a serious clash of ideals as Islamic and European societies mix.

Perhaps the decade where American fiscal irresponsibility finally outweighed their stability. That's my prediction for big political things in 2000-2010 that will ripple into 2010-2020 as countries reassess what's in their best economic interest.

Not being futuristic enough; lack of flying cars.
