I don't care if she had mental illnesses or was under the use of substance.

If she is sane enough to be living in a normal house hold, than in my eyes, there is no excuse for this.

    We're so corrupt.
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

This is just terrible. Possibly some form of earlier mental distress worsened by postpartum depression.

Actually, as a society, we are less brutal and more civil than just about any other point or place in history.

    This.

Think about it, we don't sacrifice virgins and burn people at the stake anymore. Literally at least, it does seem to happen to careers and character.

Chimpanzees also the eat the babies of the other family groups they conquer. So I'd say as a collective we're on a steadily improving trend.

    Tragic and horrific.

A death sentence would be redundant. If this schizophrenic mother finally receives the mental health treatment she was clearly in such desperate need of prior to this incident, if she becomes "well" enough to comprehend the gravity of the crimes she committed against her own child, it will be an irrevocable death sentence assigned by herself to herself.

My question is why were the mentally competent individuals around her not aware of the severity of her mental condition? Weren't they living with her? Were they also incompetent? Just heartbreaking.

I think the nature of the woman here is almost irrelevant, as well as what happens to her (though we can hope that she is out of other peoples' way).

Scenarios like these beckon us to observe the circumstances around the person, and preceeding the act, more than the person him/her self. Ask; how did it get to this?

^Heavy narcotics usage, most likely. I'm a curious cat myself though. Very curious. I'd love to know/understand fully the circumstances around the person.
