Texas also has the 5th highest poverty rate in the US. It comes behind other conservative states like Mississippi, Louisiana, and West Virginia.

Well. There is that "the ends justify the means" concept going on there.

They also give Dems a run for their money in the extramarital affairs category, though I think McGreevey of dirty Jersey tops the list of screwed up marriages with the "Oh I forgot I am gay while I got a wife and family."

There are still a few Republicans like Ron Paul and Jeff Flake who really are for smaller government, fiscal responsibility, non-interventionist foreign policy, etc.

Oh, and pissing off left-wingers is a vital function that needs to be performed regularly.

"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

I personally prefer the Democrats because the Republicans do what serves themselves the most rather than supporting human rights.

I see him as another in a long series of great men with a fatal flaw that got them in the end. With him, it was paranoia. I'm not here to excuse the behavior that brought him down, simply to state that it wasn't the entirety of the man.

People don't seem to have a problem doing it with Michael Jackson.
