The basis for all political authority is on standards of morality. Right or wrong. Otherwise, you would be unable to make a decision. Issues of fairness, rights, and authority all deal with the moral basis for life and for conduct.

    --------------------------------

    morality
    n., pl. -ties.

    1. The quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct.
    2. A system of ideas of right and wrong conduct: religious morality; Christian morality.
    3. Virtuous conduct.
    4. A rule or lesson in moral conduct.

    politics:

1 a: the art or science of government b: the art or science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy c: the art or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government
5 a: the total complex of relations between people living in society b: relations or conduct in a particular area of experience especially as seen or dealt with from a political point of view <office politics> <ethnic politics>

Politics is not necessarily bound to morality. There are plenty of governments who retain their power based entirely on financial or military supremacy. Many of these governments put on a show of morality but it's more for their own benefit than to placate the populace.

When the populace has greater power than the state, morality is the tool of control. When the populace has less power than the state, morality is the prize of the noble.

Coca-cola is never lame. Too much whiskey is kind of lame.

So on a lameness scale of 1-10:

I'd rate it about a 4. Not very lame, but getting there.

EDIT: If you meant the drug cocaine, then you've got the illegal lameness going on, which bumps you all the way up to 8, which is pretty darn lame. You don't want to know what 9 and 10 are, trust me.

Social order presumes the general concept of Justice. Justice is a moral concept. Simple.

I'm of the opinion that if republicans don't get over their socially conservative agenda they will find themselves increasingly irrelevant on the national stage. What initially served to galvanize their core constituency, has now become an increasingly divisive approach to politics that has alienated many of their less extreme members.

This goes both ways, however I can't think of any specifically democrat oriented gripes on the subject.

Do you think this alienation is reflective of changing voting demographics?
It's just to give us kiddies in the peanut gallery something to focus on and debate with each other. It started with General Alexander Hamilton's Mrs. Maria Reynolds to distract from his bank dealings and it's been downhill from there...

Democrats are latching on to Greenism as a new morality to become extreme over. Just as the Republicans let themselves be taken over by the Christian Dominionism movement.

    Default Ask Peguy

    Ask Peguy -

And Peguy will tell you that power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

    And then ask Victor -

And he will tell you that the point of liberal democracy is the limitation of power.

But the mystery in all of this is that Peguy baulks at liberal democracy.
