A third party could overtake the GOP and then cease to be a "third" party, causing little or no interruption in the two party system. If Republicans won't cater to moderates and Independents, another party will. I think a decade or two and then some kind of a comeback is more likely for them though.

That would indeed be an absurd claim considering what they've done so far.
    exactly.

the founding fathers even said, one of the best protections against governmental abuse of power is the unliklihood of any one political group gaining a majority (or holding it for very logn) and dominating the rest. i am much more comfortable with a government that balances itself out, at least somewhat.

a gridlocked government might move slowly for the good stuff, but it also moves slowly for the bad stuff. and i, for one, am much more afraid of the bad than i look forward to the good.

I thought the silliest thing I'd seen was New Yorkers voting Hillary Clinton into the Senate when she'd never even lived there, but Minnesota got envious and voted in a comedian who's never been funny.

Hopefully, that Miss Teen South Carolina who wanted to help "the Iraq and the Asian countries" will be elected the next governor of SC so she can get started on that plan to make sure everyone has maps.

We've got Jay Rockefeller, he sure as heck isn't from here. We figured he could buy this state so we weren't worried about him just wanting our money.

So far, he's been a good Senator.

Edit: Oh, congratulations Senator Al. I think he'll be a good one for them.
