It's a tragedy that not all Americans are insured with health care. I think the health care system needs to be reformed. I think some sort of universal system could work. However, it needs to be done correctly.

Obama promises that we can still use our private insurance programs if we want- he needs to make sure that we can still do so and that these programs would still be affordable. As long as we have a choice between public and private and we take some of the government money out of more useless endeavors (which would decrease taxes and increase potential to improve health care)- I say a-OK to universal health care!

I've come to accept the fact that we will eventually have a universal health care system in the US, so it doesn't really matter what I think. But I do wonder how we're going to pay for it. We're already $11 trillion in debt, with the 2009 deficit approaching $2 trillion.

It sucks that, over the course of my lifetime, I will be a net contributor to federal entitlement programs. I'm never going to see a penny of social security or medicare. I'm a healthy individual, so the chances that I'll never get my money's worth health care are pretty good. You might say that I can take solace in the idea that my money will be used to provide medical services for others, but I doubt the US government's ability to implement a program like this as efficiently as other nations. I think we'll screw it up.

The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

No Americans are voting yes? That's impossible. There are too many American socialists on this forum.

I think that universal health care works well in small, European countries, but I think that the US is a little too big for universal health care. If we did it by state instead of the whole country, I think it might work better.

We're not just too big, we're also heterogeneous. That makes it much more difficult to get people to agree on things, because we people have less in common. As a result, we get junk legislation, compromises that appease constituents, but don't actually work.

Yeap, this is actually the main reason why I just didn't vote yes.
