Smile Are We Governed by Nitwits?

What is so terrifying about a border?

I first saw it in the Google Map, on my trip from Seattle to Vancouver.
    It looked so odd.
I turned on the satellite picture. But I had guessed already.
A ghost town. I knew there would be an article.

Look at it in the satellite map. An interesting experiment.
Does the border change the scenery? No.
    Not the border.

You want to be afraid of borders?

Netherlands own USA with funky borders.

Here's a close up on a... 30 by 60 feet patch of grass or so... that's Belgian inside of the netherlands.

Beautiful EU landscape. So clean and quiet. No threats. No border patruls. No dogs.

It is different in Point Roberts.

I kind of want to move to Point Roberts now, just because.

Well, in Australia the border changes the scenery completely.

Our border changes the scenery from the land to the ocean.

Yes, we are a Continent entirely surrounded by the great oceans.

We have been blessed with natural borders.

So we are called the Lucky Country but it wasn't entirely luck as we united a whole Continent without killing anyone. And then with Luck on our side we went on to gain our Independence also without killing anyone.

This is an extraordinary double achievement in the modern world. But in our deprecating way we say it was just luck.

Unfortunately the rest of the world believes us, when we are just running ourselves down, as is our wont.

    True.
    No Point Roberts in Australia.
    A natural border.
No police dogs. No watch towers. No ugly threats.

Only one question. Or rather two.
    You united the country.
Britain is united, too. Therefore they call it UK.
    United of what?
    Wales, Scotland, England. Ulster.
    Australia is united of what?

You did not kill anybody while .. you united?
The aborigines .. no, you killed them before ..
    Before of exactly what?

    Forgive my occidental cynicism.
Or should we say, oriental romanticism.

A good idea. It is a forest by the sea. Almost a wilderness. You need a tent, and fishing equipment.
