In terms of left/right values in the modern day US:
Left - secularism, rationality, equality of opportunity, science, academics, personal freedoms, intellectualism, mixed markets, diplomacy
Right - religion, tradition, family, decisiveness, capitalism, steadfastness, militaristic foreign policy, restrictive social policy
If this were true, I'd lean to the Right. I'm fairly religious, traditional, family-oriented, decisive and steadfast. I'm pretty indifferent or moderate on social policy (pro-same sex marriage, undecided on choice/life issues, and seriously concerned about divorce rates), haven't the slightest interest in civil liberties issues, and get annoyed by self-proclaimed intellectuals.
And you can reliably find me on the left-wing of American politics. Narcissism is narcissism, whether it's the "if it feels good, do it" "me-decade" culture of the '70s, or the "greed is good," "anything to get ahead" culture of the '80s.
