The best form of goverment is a kind of government that demands a fairly high minimum amount of intellect from it's politicians.

    :/

Seriously, I'm amazed by the stupidity of many politicians in my country at the moment. And the freaking media is obviously covering these people the most. And in turn half of the population which are just as stupid vote on these people because they're the only politicians they know from the media.

Which brings me to another point. Informed voting! Everyone that votes gets a crash course in current political affairs before being allowed to vote.

The best government is our Government, for it does right-wing things for left-wing reasons.

I'm not in anyway defending any of the descisions being made in politics. But it is true that often, left-wing and right-wing isn't that far apart as people believe them to be.

However, it is true that either or both are often being exploited for the wrong reasons.

I also hate the perspective a lot of descisions have. Based on short-term and/or long-term effects. Often the media is brought in on ideas in order to get face for a political party based on an idea that is being molded into something it is not. As not all angles are explicitaly mentioned to the public. But ofcourse, an intellectual person can see those effects for him/herself.

Which brings me to a third point. Proper media coverage for the sake of information, not for the sake of political 'face'.

Totalitarianism could work with the right people. But that's the problem with governments like that, the right people (if such people exist) are never in control. That's why you have to minimize the potential impact of personal moral codes in any government.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

The best form of government is that which best circumvents the harmful aspects of human nature which will never change.

Such is the nature of the republican form of government we gave birth to in this country. The system itself provided enough balances to keep people in check, however, it heavily relied on the virtue of both the voting class and the politicians themselves (even more so for them). It was understood that without such a moral fiber in the country, the system would simply break down. When people don't want to do the hard things to make the system work properly, being responsible and accountable for their actions, then they will seek a new system that better suits their course of action. Rest assured, the new system they seek will be inferior to the old system under a virtuous people.

But don't mind me, I'm just talking into the wind...
