The best form of government IMO would be very much like the system that governs Switzerland.

I've always admired Switzerland too, although I admit to not being up on all the details of their current system. I do like a lot about the way they run themselves, though.

I won't bother to get into my ideal form of government, though. I don't like arguing, for one thing...

I was reading something on the computer that said Switzerland was the closest country to a direct democracy. Whatever that is?

They have such a great reputation too. They've been neutral for a very long time.
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

Democracy is a trade-off between equality and freedom.

Social democracy values equality the highest, while liberal democracy values freedom the highest.

So in a modern democracy equality and freedom are in creative tension.

In our democracy, equality is favoured by the Labor Party while freedom is favoured by the Liberal Party.

And the people regularly change the Government to keep the balance right.

However in a democracy where you have two parties that favour freedom over equality, you have an unbalanced Government.

And as the Government sets the tone for the whole country, a balanced Government serves a balanced people, and an unbalanced Government leads to an unbalanced people.

They say that in a democracy, the people get a Government they deserve. And it is equally true that in a democracy, the Government gets a people they deserve.

Only if you think equality is equally as important as freedom; others think freedom is always more important, with the balancing act consisting of determining the degree to which freedom takes precedence on any particular issue under exigent conditions.

I honestly do not know. If I did, I'd champion the hell out of it.

Fortunately I have a choice at every election between a Party that favours freedom and a Party that favours equality.

Australia of course invented the secret ballot and across the world it is called the Australian Ballot.

So I am loathe to tell you who I vote for. But if you promise not to tell anyone, I'll tell just you.

I prefer freedom as I believe that there is no equality without freedom.

However I also believe there is no freedom without equality.

However my preference is for freedom first.

However we must keep this just between you and me.
