Default Hey! I'm descended from a family of thieves, pimps and prostitutes!

    Just found out:

Papers Past; Evening Post; 6 August 1887; Dens of Infamy in Wellington.

The Alfred mentioned in the last paragraph is my maternal grandfather's father.

    Charles: My great great grandfather.
Grace and Maud: My great great aunties.

This was the first of my mother's family to come over from Whitechapel, London. It's a good thing they did as Grace and Maud would have been prostitutes in the immediate vicinity of Jack the Ripper.
Why do we always come here?

    I guess we'll never know.

It's like a kind of torture,
To have to watch this show.

Well of course. Knowing you come from a family of dirt-poor immigrants gives you a sense of belonging.

Sinjay: It's a great speech. Too bad New Zealanders are a bunch of cocky A-holes descended from criminals and retarded monkeys.

Jemaine: No, you're thinking of Australians.

    Bret: Yeah, that's Australians.

Sinjay: No no no. New Zealanders. Throw another shrimp on the barbie, ride around in your kangaroos all day.

    Bret: No no, that's Australians.

Well, when I think to my own family...

At 30 years old, my father was in jail (dangerous maoist activist during May '68).
At 30 years old, my paternal great-father was trying to escape from a prisoner's camp, so he could eventually join the communist maquis.
At 30 years old, my great-great father was in jail (pacifist activist during WWI).
At 30 years old, my other great-great father was in jail too (dangerous anarchist).
At 30 years old, my great-great-great father was in jail because he tried to burn a church.

And so on, and so on...

I had a pretty calm life so far, but who knows which hidden secret lies within my cultural heritage...

Hey Blackmail! - ever done any porridge yourself? Wouldn't want to break the family tradition.

I did some research and managed to connect one of the suspects in the Jack the Ripper case with my mother's side of the family. If it was, he got clean away with it.

I may well be related to Jack the Ripper. Howzat.

    Time to clean the streets...
