Because of your 98 percent, I think probably 40 percent have discovered that if they don't go along, peer review journals won't publish their monographs any more.

If you would all like a prime example of how scientists can be wrong through a real or fictitious consensus, look up the subject of palladium and energy (as it relates to cold fusion theory).

That would be a wild conspiracy. How are they keeping 40% of climate scientists from telling their opinion in an anonymous poll? Do they rough them up in the computer lab?

Heh, listening to the media is probably the worst thing you can. You'd think scientists would of called for global cooling decades ago if you did that. There are entire think tanks generating pro and anti global warming articles all the time.

Funny enough, 98% of doctors believe a lot of things still. I take it you doubt all of those too?

That's actually a great website - links are mostly to solid papers/essays - and on BOTH sides. And for the record, no, no, I don't believe what I believe because the media told me to.

This is a very interesting article on Freeman Dyson and his climate change denying ways, tho*: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/ma...t.html?_r=1&hp

*I am posting this for interest's sake - and also because Freeman Dyson is fucking awesome! - not as 'proof' of anything.

Hah. You two are forcing me to go back to the white dove thing... If 98% of relevant specialists aren't reliable for something, then nothing is true enough to be cause for action. :rolli:

No. My point was only that 98% of any population can be wrong. What I'm really being accused of, by extension, is not siding with the majority.

And do you note the social pressure that has been brought to bear on me due to this lack of conformity? Is that how truth is revealed?

Where *is* this 98% figure coming from? And is it 98% of scientists in general, or only climatologists, or what?

I'm warning you, it's a PDF file. And yes, it's 98% of climatologists.

And they can be right. And, when they are equally experts on the subject in question, one reasonably assumes the 98% is more likely to be right than the 2%.

You're being accused of not siding with evidence and expertise. You're being sent the same accusations that creationists receive.
