Maaaybe in terms of a heat island effect, but not globally due to CO2 emissions. I can't wrap my head around why people ignore so many basic facts that obviously punch major holes in the global warming mythos logic. It's as if their beliefs on global warming are the nucleus of an atom (in their mind), and it takes nothing short of a nuclear explosion to change the structure of it. Any piece of information that defies the global warming model is automatically repelled and never has a chance to touch the nucleus/your understanding of the issue.

    Risen,

Why are talking about a subject you don't know the slightest clue?
It's ridiculous, especially for a so-called INTP. Are you that happy to show us how deeply ignorant you are?

As a botanist, I've noticed how plants are migrating north. It's obvious, you can see it happening right now, miles after miles, years after years.

You have no notion of biology, of botanics, of physics, you havent made any scientific survey about that subject, so why are you pretending you know something?

    It defies any logic.

And as an INTP who is detached from any concern for what other people do or do not know, I'm not going to waste my time or energy in arguments I've witnessed and engaged in many times before. To do so would simply be illogical, since nobody ever ends up accepting any of the information that gets flung about. For this issue, arguing or debating it is pointless.

*And Black mail, telling me "Yes, shut up you fool!" in reputation comments wont get me to engage the debate...*

Way to back up your arguments, broseph.

I'm familiar with what you believe, Risen. You make it quite clear.

Like a few others around here, I've benefited from having actual academic training in how to properly apply the scientific method of analysis to observed natural phenomenon - not to ideologically categorize, or to necessarily assert a rhetorical platform, but to simply chart a falsifiable progression of data.

One of my undergrad degrees is a Biochem hybrid and I've been fortunate enough to do some interesting field work with a Paleoclimatologist - really interesting guy. I bet even you'd like him.

To that end, you'll pardon my general skepticism towards people who espouse easy-to-recognize pop politics and make summary judgments on something as profoundly complex as climate change -- seemingly absent any identifiable scholarly resources to back up their arguments.

Your opinion seems perpetually frustrated by your perception of intellectual intransigence, and usually offers some social criticism to coincide with your data. I have a hard time buying information packaged in this manner.

I'm more than willing to revise my opinion if you'd be gracious enough to offer me contrary empirical investigation. I promise I'll read it with an open mind.

The difference between me and you, is that you have the will to believe, because your Ideology justifies it.

While I only believe what I see, what I have studied.

    ---

Here, you are discussing about a subject, on an internet forum, and you have nothing to back up your claims. Absolutely nothing. Give us your sources, so we can laugh about it.

    ---

On the other hand, global warming is a subject I have extensively studied professionally. Actually, I teach it in university.

But more than that, I've seen the effects of global warming. I can witness them. I could show you some.

And you know, the laws of the physical world won't bother to submit to your own biased Ideas, just because Nature likes you. These laws just happen, whether we want it or not. Global warming is real, whether you want it or not.

Nature is neutral. Ideology is meaningless for it. You may prefer to see a sky green, but it won't happen overnight. Your desires, envies or projections have nothing to do with it.

    It's because it's stupidity!

Again, do you think you can teach me my job? What kind of lame swaggerer are you?

Are you the kind of nut who thinks he knows better how to treat himself than a medic?

    ---

People deserve to know what is really happening, but with internet, it's so difficult because of the ambient demagogy. There's an emergency, right now!
    I really mean it.

And all the work of my colleagues is compromised because of fools like you.

Termal expansion of oceans because of warming is one thing.
But when you melt the arctic sea ice that doesn't make much water if you compare it with the ammount of water in the oceans. Plus ice is already in water.

The changes in amount of ice that are happening because of season would be more then enough to make this change visable. But that is not happening.

Greenland and Antarctic are another story.

As you said, the melting of arctic caps is one thing (-> no change). The shrinking of permanent terrestrial ice sheets is another (-> light change). And thermal expansion of the oceans is also something completely different (-> measurable change).

But since we were talking about changes of sea level... Well...

However, this rise of current sea level is not that terrifying, compared to other effects induced by the current global warming over the climate (unless for cities like Venice or countries like the Maldives or Bangladesh). Inversion of sea currents, disturbances in ecosystems, for instance, could pose far greater threats... well... I think we agree.
