Yep. Just one step/person away from a filibuster proof Senate. God I hope that doesn't happen. PLEEEEASE.

    I think it's wonderful.

Besides, modern filibustering is a huge joke...

This worries me greatly. Though if the dems act excessively irresponsibly, as I expect they will, it will create the potential for a genuine conservative (possibly even constitutional?) movement in '10 and '12.

Well I can hope at least.

Conservatives have to rebuild. They have no leader. They won't have anyone until 2016, earliest.

But it looks like Franken is the leader right? Once he's officially elected [trouble in the courts with that I think?], filibuster proof senate. Might as well hand Obama a crown and congratulate his excellency's tremendous success. I don't think Democrats have any backbone when it comes to combating an Obama idea, so here's to hoping he gets it all right. Wish I wouldn't have to hope though.

I wouldn't hold out any hopes in that department, Franken is almost certainly going to win. In some ways, its almost a relief-now the Republicans can concentrate on refining their platform and appealing directly to the electorate rather than spend all their time trying to minimize the damage done by the Democrats (It also might motivate citizen's groups to hold moderate Democrats' feet to the fire), thereby improving their position in 2010. Still, as far as short-term certainties are concerned, this is not a good thing-expect a lot of decades of damage from this short-term majority.

Heh, with the defection of Spector, the percentage of Republicans who actually support the Constitution (rather than view it as an utterly worthless "living document") has increased, at least. "Always look on the bright side of life..."

I never could stand Specter. I wish Casey had taken him out instead of Santorum. Oh well. Maybe this is a sign that the RINOs are finally dying out.

I would say filibustering was always a joke. A very sad detrimental annoying joke.
