Default Jackie Chan on Freedom in China

I didn't see a thread on this, so I decided to see what people think:

Spokesman: Jackie Chan comments out of context (AP) - Yahoo! Movies

"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not," Chan said Saturday, adding freedoms in his native Hong Kong and Taiwan made those societies "chaotic." Taiwan, which split from China in 1949, is democratic and Hong Kong , a separately ruled Chinese territory, enjoys some free elections.

"I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want," he said...

Sounds like someone took his comments out of context. His representatives say he was speaking of the film industry in China. Our film industry is regulated to some extent - I mean - we have a ratings system...

Also, we've all seen Jackie speak English. Where these comments in English or in Chinese? Could it be lost in translation?

A topic I don't know much about except to say looks like someone jumped at the chance to use his words dishonestly. Everyone loves Jackie!

Looks like a combination of poor PR-mindfulness by Mr. Chan and a lot of people using his quote out of context for their various personal vendettas. Next thing y'know, we've got a bologna bandwagon galloping across our news tickers.

    Double lame.

I dunno, I'd love to hear th real story here. Because if is wasn't taken out of context then some PR fucked up on letting him spout that in public. But if it was well then, that sucks.

I wouldn't care if he said it and it wasn't taken out of context, personally. Democracy isn't the optimum system for everyone at every time.

True. And growing up with a way of life - its easy to go back to that when things get scary.

Jackie Chan is insane, a nut! And we love him for it.

Seriously, who cares what Jackie says, the man flies through brick walls for a living.

True - he has hit his head a bit I'm sure.

He's got that innocent child-like light about him. Hard not to like him.
