And as shocking as that picture is, I'd like to know the context, and how old that picture is. I don't trust PETA at all.
You do realize the point of that picture was/is the nipples, rabbit be damned?

I have written alot about animal rights and it is a cause dear to my heart but the problem with an organisation such as PETA is that they almost forego human rights in favour of animal rights. That I think is what turns alot of people off from them. It is unfortunate that the messgae is tainted by the messengers in this case because I do feel that they raise some important issues

1: Approach is unproductive to counter-productive. They don't really have any plans, or any affirmative ideas, but they like to offend people and just generally do crazy shit. For example, releasing all the rats from a lab. They don't know how to live outside, and they're too many all at once, so most will just die. And who knows what condition some of those lab rats are in... I shudder to think what's being released. It has no postive effect, and generates only bad PR.

2: While animals like siberian tigers and orangutans are nearing extinction, these assholes are spending their time on cloned lab rats and dairy cows. Priorities, people. Start with the biggest threat of the biggest loss.

3: Unreasonably extreme policies. They basically expect humans to all become vegans, stop expansion of housing and resourcing, and relinquish the concept of animal ownership, all overnight. That's not going to happen, and I'm not sure that it should.

4: Emotionally unstable. PETA supporters seem to have a very hard time handling those who disagree with them and live a different life-style. They are fundamentalists, and like most fundamentalists, I think they are venting their personal problems into this weird cause.

Of course, it's easy to trash PETA, and it seems that most people do, so I'd be more interested in hearing someone try to defend them (supposing they can do it calmly and respectfully, of course).
I would agree with all of these. But reason number 1 is probably the biggest problem I have with this type of organization (some environmental groups are similar): they take an issue/problem that is legitimate and should be addressed, but the tactics they use are counterproductive to the people they would want to reach and change. (their tactics only preach to the choir)

Obama girls name their new puppy 'Bo'

So what, the world would be a better place if Obama got a dog from a shelter and not take a gift from someone?

For the dog it would. For the people it would probably be neutral. So why *not*?

Really! Things have gotten out of control when you have animals rights activists threatening human lives. Besides the obvious lunacy, do you think they ever stop to think that human beings are animals, too?

Recently peta protested a dog show and the horse drawn carriage. 2 more ways to put dogs and horses on a faster track to extiction by way of protesting one of their remaining uses. it's not rocket science.
everyone uses every function about evenly. take NE for example. if there are those who don't use it much, then why are there such massive amounts of people constantly flowing through Wallmart with 20 items or less?

The irony does stink quite a bit.
