How ridiculous is this? So we're supposed to keep our legs closed if we don't want to get pregnant but we're not supposed to close our legs with our husbands??? Sorry, that's about the most absurd thing I've seen in this thread so far. Ten years of marriage would have left me with a dozen children operating under that paradigm. FUCK that!

You've just offered up yet further evidence of why marriage should be eliminated. Thank you.

People, men and women, should have the freedom to choose whether or not to marry without the societal punishments of ridicule, oppression, and poverty. I am not placing a value judgment on marriage as a concept in this day and age.

I read your position as equating your personal value system and ideals regarding personal relationships with a universal value system for human relationships. This is not my position. If I embrace marriage, if I am apathetic towards any choice, if I see marriage as primarily destructive, this is separate from any universal ideal that can apply to everyone. My position is to separate these two concepts to allow each individual to reach their full potential through freedom, respect, and the ability to define self through individual choices. edit: Maybe that could be called a meta-value system? My value is to respect diverse values and make it possible to choose what is best on an individual basis.

Hm. This seems like the root of a population problem...

I'd say men are being held down now. By their own imagined threats to their masculinity. It's restricting men from doing what many want to do. Just because they're not the same problems as being able to support one's self on one's own salary doesn't mean it isn't happening.

But I haven't seen any, err, 'masculinist' movements come yet. Probably because they'd all be called fags for doing so.

The prospect for such was the case for Évariste Galois (1811–1832), fun read.

Marriage should not be eliminated. Loveless marriages should be eliminated. Stop projecting.

I don't believe we are advocating forced marriages, just that married couples provide (higher % so than otherwise) a better environment for raising children.

I got news for you. If there is a promise of hot sex based on like changing the oil in my wife's car, guess what I'm doing Saturday morning? Carrot and stick.
