    well, my family had less to eat during that time.

    you can argue that my father was not essential to the workings of the govt, but that matters none at all to a couple kids depending on that salary

    No one should be depending on government salaries for nonessential jobs. It's time to start weaning us off that process.

    i agree, but weaning should not be a sudden process. i dont agree with how big the military is or even the idea of homeland security dept, but you gotta give their employees transition time. furloughs suck.

    we can argue about the definition of wean, but in general i think most fair is for employees to know when their positions will be phased out so they can start looking for somethign else. same goes for layoffs. Idiots can try to sabotage their companies before they are let go, but that is a stupid thing to do for ones future, anyway, and further irreelevnt if an entire dept is being made redundant.
