    I once had a comrade,
    None better I have had.
The drum called us to fight,
    He always on my right,
In step, through good and bad.

A bullet it flew towards us,
For him or meant for me?
His life from mine it tore,
At my feet a piece of gore,
As if a part of me.

His hand reached up to hold mine.
    I must re-load my gun.
"My friend, I cannot ease your pain,
In life eternal we'll meet again,
    My good comrade!"
It is very important to remember that it was Right Wing Catholics that formed the backbone of Fascism in Spain, Italy and Croatia and other countries.

Of course not all Catholics are Right Wing, in fact we have more than our fair share of Left Wing Catholics here.

But nevertheless it was Right Wing Catholics who formed the basis of Fascism.

So it is no surprise to find that Fascism and Militarism are being valourised here.

So a song(which dates from the Napoleonic Wars anyways) honouring those who have fallen in combat is objectionable to you?

my grandpa was a major, lost his leg in russia, his brother was SS. Became an Oberst in the Bundeswehr later in Korea.

My whole family were soldiers, but I spoiled the tradition. my very cool grandpa is now dead for a long time, but his brother is still alive and still not talking to me because I didnt join the military
Both my grandpas were enlisted in the French army in 1939.

My paternal grandpa was captured near Laons in June 1940 after he was severely wounded in the chest. He was then transfered into a stalag in Germany but managed nonetheless to survive and even dared to escape in 1941.
He then joined the communist maquis (FTP) shortly afterwards, and thanks to his guerilla prowesses, he was quickly promoted to the rank of Colonel. He coordinated the liberation of half a departement of Brittany and was for instance responsible for the commandos that disabled the long range guns pointed towards the sea that prevented the allied troops to reinforce the Free French Forces there.
He spent the last months of the war around the Lorient pocket, the major German submarine base on the Atlantic coast which surrendered only in late April 1945.

As far as I remember him, he was a very sad and quiet man who didn't want to talk much about the war despite the medals he won there. He was in fact haunted by the amount of deaths he caused or saw, the friends that never came back because of his direct orders. He always told us there was no glory in war, like for instance when he had to personally shot a young German prisoner because they had no other options left (the man had been captured for 2 weeks, so they had time to befriend).

After the war (in 1947), he went to Trier to see the soldier's family and explain them what really happened as well as giving them the soldier's watch and personal effects.

    ---

For my other grandpa this was a completely different story because he had to flee and remain hidden because of his origins. To be captured meant to be sent to an extermination camp and according to him, most people already knew what was happening as soon as late 1941, even in France.

Like my grandma, after the war he was the only survivor of his entire family. He lost his father, his mother, his cousins... everybody else were hunted and tracked like animals by the SS, and eventually ended in various places in Germany and Poland.
He owed his life to the French Resistance of Auvergne, and decided to settle there afterwards in recognition for their kind help.

German was the mother tongue of my grandma, but she never was able to speak to a German until the late fifties, until she eventually overcame her fear and forgave this nation for what they had done to her (She was burned alive and was subsequently considered dead by the Gestapo. She faked it for two days, and during the night, she managed to crawl on the large heap of rotting bodies to escape from the camp in Austria. She bore very large scars especially on her neck and shoulders. She underwent clandestine medical care during eight months before she partly recovered. How she had the will to survive after that is a miracle I've yet not understood...
None of the Gestapo's officials that were responsible for this were ever condemned after the war.)

So maybe this thread evokes glorious armies and battles for some, maybe they are fascinated by the martial, manly, virile attitude of the SS, but for me, it recalls a very different memory: How my family was almost entirely wiped out, for instance.
I would not go further into the insult as posting photographs of Auschwitz, the place where 3 of my grandgrandparents, as well as 9 other cousins and countless others were murdered. But believe me, I'm tempted.

I'm almost sure Peguy or YLJ would immediately blame me for "trolling" their nice little thread were nobody are supposed to talk about the real goals of the Nazi ideology.

And by the way... Did you know that almost every SS hired in Auschwitz were catholics? It's because antisemitism was traditionally much stronger in the southern regions. Hoss even considered to become a priest before he enlisted in the NSDAP, and attended the mass every sundays.

Yes, I thought of countering the pathological propaganda here by posting pictures of Auschwitz and describing the crimes against humanity committed by those SS pictured so attractively below.

But I didn't have the heart.

But do let me say that it is in the spirit of the SS to call anyone who tells the truth, a troll.

Furthermore, even if they show the truth about Nazism and why the SS were created, those pictures are obscene. And as you like to say, you can't fight pornography with another kind of pornography.

    Thanks for the pictures, Peguy
    Who is "irrational", tell me?

    "Peculiar manners", you said?

    "Mystic", "macabre way"?
