Default Preview of Obama's inaugural speech!

Apparently they were able to acquire a draft of Obama's speech. It may or may not be real, but it's interesting to hear.

I didn't really want to make a new thread for this and it kinda fits here so: Congratulations to Mr. Obama, who just officially became the new president of the united states. I hope he will help the US to get out of the crap they are in.

He didn't wear the pointy hat.
    Nor did Rick Warren.

Someone set up a TV in the lunchroom, which was cool.
About 15 of us watched it.

He did what he needed to do -- confirmed that things suck and will take much work to get through, but referenced American ingenuity and commitment and passion and love for freedom in the past and each individual's efforts are essential and capable of pulling together and getting to a better place together.

And rather than just catering to the new and innovative, he tried to tie them together with American values that have made the country great, so that both traditionalists and progressives could feel they were all part of the solution and part of the same team.

Whatever his detractors might say, he's a master communicator and excellent at setting the tone and vision ... which I think is part of what his position entails. Now that the tone has been set, we will have to move forward into the meat of things and see what he has to offer in a concrete sense.

But it's pretty amazing to realize that it's only been sixty years since his father might have been refused entrance to a local restaurant because of the color of his skin, and now someone has inspired enough confidence to be elected president. There were a few African Americans present at the showing at work, and I wish I could have really really grasped what this meant to them -- I can empathize, but I don't really know it in quite the same way.

I was asleep during the speech, but I hear it might have been similar to the preview (FDR's speech). I heard it was fairly disappointing in content for those with overly high expectations.

Whether or not his policies will mirror FDR's remains to be seen, but I think he's smart enough to not let his rhetoric mirror FDR's. I'm hoping the trillion dollar deficit will temper any aspirations he might have of instituting another New Deal.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
