Are the rest of you californian's keeping track of this issue? I mean, they've been debating this crap for like a year now. They FINALLY got a budget passed last year in Sept. after like 9 months of standing around, and then immediately went right back at it when the economic crisis hit. Now they're saying we will run out of money come February and will have to start issuing IOU's where money is owed, possibly including tax returns. The governor said we're facing "financial armageddon". A couple weeks ago they tried to pass an illegal "fee increase" which was basically just an extra tax. The governor got off his goofy left handed ass and actually sided with the republicans in deeming it illegal. The public (those who are keeping track anyway) would've been quite mad had it passed, so they had no choice really. However, the governator is still negotiating how to increase revenue, while the republicans are still adamant that increasing taxes during a recession is retarded.
What's more retarded is that this state has some of the highest tax revenues already, the highest gas taxes, and ALL THE MONEY WE NEED! But you know what? While they're sitting up there in Sacramento playing grab ass and talking back and forth on HOW to leech more money out of the taxpayers, nowhere on the table is there the mere SUGGESTION that they cut they're freaking expenditures! Nobody in the government wants to cut spending or cut they're damn wages, or all the unnecessary jobs. They STILL want to go after some of the most taxed taxpayers in the nation. They don't even want to consider the real solutions because of all the unions pressuring them in their ever stone like stance against having cuts and renegotiations. It's all a bunch of bureaucratic bull crap. I am staunchly against raising our taxes even more if nobody in the government is willing to cut their ridiculous expenditures. I'm even hearing musings about "tax revolts" around here.
What do you guys think about all this mess?
