I think the anology of disease is funny, I mean is disease as big a contentious political topic as gun control? Are there laws against possessing, trafficing or offensively deploying STDs for instance?

The reality is that if your country has a gun culture then outlawing firearms is going to be different from outlawing it anyplace else, not only would it be unpopular with the lawabidding and likely to criminalise them, its unlikely to effect criminals either way since there's already existing laws against crime.

    I dont get the reference.

You know I've been thinking about a possible poll option which doesnt exist, that they are a necessary evil.

I'm infavour of gun ownership, although I dont own a gun. However I dont fetishise guns or gun ownership in any of the ways that I've seen people do, guns are dead things, objects, not people.

All the reasons which I've heard for gun ownership, self defence, home defence, symbolic of self-government etc. which I think are good still only amount to guns being a necessary evil because they can make greater evils difficult.

Good point, I'm against outlawing drugs in the Netherlands as well. Guns are a part of American culture. The fact that they are such hot topic shows that.

Yeah, I do think that sometimes if a culture gets too degenerate and a revolution is called for, otherwise the laws need to keep a pace with the culture, otherwise it just invites trouble.

    Shooting for fun is ok.
    What?

Pretty sure I've commented in this thread already, but if not: An inanimate object can't be evil...

Lemme see, have I got this right?

Guns are legal but prostitution is not.

    Is that right?

Yes. In the same manner that vaginas are legal, but murder is not.

    Guns are not evil.
    Guns are things.
Objects are neither good nor evil.
Seems quite common sense to me.

Now.. zombies.. see.. I think zombies are evil.. or at the very least dangerous.
And I want access to one [if not many] firearms for that reason alone.
