    Default Trading Places

Would you trade your race, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation? Is one trade preferable to another i.e. sex over race, nationality over sex?

    Why would/wouldn't you do it?

EDIT: Could someone add sexual orientation to my poll I forgot.
Relationships have normal ebbs and flows. They do not automatically get better and better when the participants learn more and more about each other. Instead, the participants have to work through the tensions of the relationship (the dialectic) while they learn and group themselves and a parties in a relationships. At times the relationships is very open and sharing. Other time, one or both parties to the relationship need their space, or have other concerns, and the relationship is less open. The theory posits that these cycles occur throughout the life of the relationship as the persons try to balance their needs for privacy and open relationship.

The only thing I would trade is my gender. For reasons mentioned elsewhere.

While it might be fun to imagine being a different race or nationality or orientation, I have no real desire to do so on a permanent basis. (Hmmm... well, it might be fun being Asian. Just because it's so different from being in a white anglo-saxon body. But I do not care either way.)

    I'm happy being an American.

To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

The only thing I could imagine trading would be to be 100 percent Native American and live in a tribe (of course that also means I wish I could have the experience of having been raised that way), Cheerokee maybe.

I have always wanted to live in Scotland, but if I was there who knows, I might regret it.

For both of these things, it is an emotional pull I feel when I see pictures or read about these things, there is nothing I can put into words. My heart just really, really wants to know what it would be like.

I would stay female and straight.

It's possible I would trade nationalities, but I don't really know enough about any other countries to know for sure.

I'd stay female because I loved having the opportunity to carry, give birth to, and nurse my children.

I'd stay white and straight because life is just easier that way.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

    Fascinating questions.
Trade nationality? No, I have it too good right now.
Trade race? No, I like the history and prestige associated with mine.
Trade sexual orientation? I'd never give up being asexual.
Trade gender? I can't trade something that doesn't exist.

I voted too hastily, so I changed my vote from "gender" to "wouldn't change anything." At first I thought this was one of those "IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE" questions, but since I see that it's not, I honestly can't think of a reason to change any of those things about myself. I originally chose gender because I've already had my children, and as cafe said that was the fulcrum of womanhood for me. So, out of curiosity I might like to see what it was like to be a man. However, I would rather stay a woman than become a man permanently.

I'd probably trade a few of these out of curiosity, but nothing permanently.

I'd like to trade the time I'm living in, go back a few years. Of course I'd like to keep all the knowledge of things to come.

    This signature left intentionally blank.

    Really.

Errm none of the above really. I wouldn't be me without it. AS much as I'd like to think/ wish that some of it hadn't happened.

    Nothing permanently..hmm..I rather like me.

Maybe I would change my orientation to bisexual though..because flexibility like that might help one day. The very concept is hard for me to digest, actually, as I just...*can't* like my own gender...it's hard.
