That is a fair argument. However, the issue is at the Federal Level. The rights that gays are not allotted are generally federal level laws that don't recognize civil unions the same way as they recognize marriage. Obama has said that under his administration, civil unions would have all the rights and benefits of marriage. I'm not sure how he is going to do that, but I think it would be the best move possible at this time. Then gays could simply prove they are deserving of marriage on their own instead of seeking to use the law to force the issue.

    Yes. It will take time.

I'm not overly optimistic that Obama is going to change anything. He has a 'full plate', and I think he is more conservative than most people would like to believe. I don't forsee vast changes in his term, or really any at all in regards to gay issues.

    It's unfortunate, but I agree.

We have 2 states. It's a beginning. The majority of your generation is open minded. They find answers for themselves, and question if what they have been taught makes sense. When they take positions of power (10 years), there will be far more change. We can't give up.

If anything is a "lifestyle choice" it's Religion, not being gay.

Agreed with binary. Things will change, but it will still take more time than you'd hope. However, look at the difference in gay rights now compared to 50 years ago, and see how far things have come.
