Well, the lines often get blurry there, with all the leverage and loopholes given on that level, and they get so much they don't know where to stop, and then it crosses over into illegal activity.

I don't WANT someone mooching off of MY ambition!

The LACK of ambition that welfare and other programs create just gets SO under my skin!! America is set up to do as MUCH or as LITTLE as you care to do! But stop expecting hand outs if you're not willing to do the former!! :steam:
But then, we're not talking about you. Since you want to speak for those we are talking about, then what you're saying is that if they can't have their $89,000 pheasant hunt, or their four houses as Gabe said (most of them probably have more than that; and they're more like castles!), then why should they work?
Well, did you ever think, why should you work, when you can't have all that stuff, and prices are so high, and you still have to struggle? Or do you really work; since in this system as is, outrageous opulence is what is being called the just rewards for "effort"; making it seem like anyone who does not have all of that just didn't work hard enough? Let's take it further; why should those lowly "moochers" everyone keeps talking about work, when they grew up seeing their parents work and live in filthy rundown slums?

It's like the only reason to work is to live like a king, and we project our own perspective onto them and make the argument for them. (Except you don't completely apply it to yourself; because you're working and doing without!) So in the process, you're basiclly saying that you SHOULD be struggling, and this financial crisis is good, because the system AS IS, is completely fair (if not too much taxes being taken from the rich and given to the poor as it is). So then why do we even call this a "crisis"? Why is it perceived as something being wrong? It's just the way things are supposed to be! Everyone wants more money; just work harder, and it's there!

Again; all that money they have is coming from somewhere, and all the money that is dissapearing from the economy is going somewhere. Put two and two together! It's not the poor getting all of it, as has virtually been claimed for decades until recently. It's not aliens taking it off the earth!

Really? Jesus taught that the government should seize control of the means of production? I must have missed that.

All I will say is we give him a chance. If in two years he screws you over, vote against the Dems at the mid term, and if he still doesn't change, you can vote someone else to be President. I may not agree with everything he says/thinks, but he is very analytical and am willing to listen to him and watch what he does, with full support at the start.

But I will be watching like a hawk...

Dunno from Jesus and kingship. That wasn't his schtick when he was here, as he took pains to explain.

On the other hand, the book of I Samuel records in verses 1 through 18 that when the Israelites got tired of being ruled by judges (namely Samuel's corrupt sons), they came to Samuel and begged for a king to be appointed.

Samuel replied to them with an explanation of all the wrong they would suffer under a king, including giving up a tenth of their goods and income to the crown to be given to the king's "officials and attendants," and for that reason they should give up their foolish request.

According to the Old Testament, then, that's what tyranny looks like. Ten percent.

I think you also left out the parts about the conscription, seizing lands, and slavery. But yeah I'm sure that 10 percent was meant to be the worst part.

Ten percent on top of all the required tithes, offerings, sacrifices, etc to the tabernacle could have been quite a lot, even with the acceptance of lesser sacrifices from the poor.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
