    Oh, I am serious as a heart attack. America needs more American ideals, too. We've lost our way.

    What would you say if I wanted to "Frenchize" American culture, movies, restaurant and Ideals?

    Wouldn't you perceive me as an arrogant, self-satisfied nationalistic jerk?

    No, I would assume you had very different principles than I do-assuming you meant that you wished that America would adopt French institutions and values rather than imposing it upon us. Did you think pure_mercury wished to impose American values on France?

    I'd say you don't know how to put together a proper analogy, since I never said we should "Americanize" France, simply that you could benefit from some American ideals. Frankly, I wish French culture, movies, and restaurants had more influence here than vice versa. I love French food and I can't stand McDonald's. Since I pointed out that America has lost its way, and that we need a revitalization of our ideals (which should be universal, not simply American), I don't see your point. I may be arrogant, but I am sure as hell neither self-satisfied, nor nationalistic. Don't put words in my mouth, and don't project onto me.

    And Victor;

    1.) Militant Islam cannot compare to the former Communist threat.

    2.) The Australian Labor party (along with other "third way" social democrats)is currently moderate in terms of policy, but the principles and ideas utilized to justify policies have longterm implications and consequences beyond the short-term impact of the policies themselves (except for judicial and "entitlement" policies, which last for decades or longer). If they became an explicitly social-liberal party (and therefore made clear that liberal principles have inherent priority over socialist principles), I would have no problem with them.
    Hmm, maybe I should have read the entire thread before posting. Nuking is definitely not an option for me. I kind of see your point too, well, at least from your last post anyway.

    Before long we'll be living in the Soviet States of America where doctors make as much as janitors. I guess there's no reason for anybody to put any effort into doing anything.

    (this is sarcastic by the way, I'm not really that concerned)
