Risen, what's the longest number of weeks or months you've been out of your country?

The way you write about things just makes you appear like someone afraid of any sort of change that you've clearly grown used to and comfortable with.

    Different is not always bad.

    heh.

I'm willing to put down my dollar to bet that Risen has never even left his country, except perhaps to visit an American tourist resort on a beach somewhere.

Really? I think he sounds like someone profoundly dissatisfied with the way things are in this country.

    lot of people are dissatisfied

its best to be a pragmatist imo.

people want the economy back. ideological discussions are good and all, but its time for pragmatism right now.

It's one thing to be profoundly dissatisfied, it's another to make it sound like all doomsday is about to happen when, realistically, no one outside the USA sees it that way.

Hard financial/political/environmental times? Yes. But he just appears panicky about any sort of change that I think could be solved by backpacking Asia and learning to relax, IMO.

And some people vehemently disagree over what would be a pragmatic response.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
