    I think there is value in having an ideal is unreachable because striving toward it can make you a better person or make the world a better place. For example, never loosing your temper or ending world hunger.

    However, I think it is important to realize that it is an ideal rather than a goal and not be upset with yourself if you fall short of it.

    That is one issues I have with Christianity, or at least Christianity as it is taught in some churches. You are taughts that none are without sin, but yet you are often made to feel very bad over your sins, even minor one like having an "impure thought."

    Perhaps the simplest way to put it.

    Still, I think it is important not to rationalize away moral errors. Otherwise we may come to think it is impossible for us to be better.
