    Journey.

    Um, destination is death, sweetheart.

    CC is right.

First, you don't exist, Then you exist, then you don't exist. Existence is merely an interference in not existing.

    So...

What exactly is nonexistence? What is a state of non-being?

There are not destinations beyond or before death?

Maybe SPs are the smartest, live in the moment?

I was referring to a state of consciousness, or self-awareness I guess, all animals have some level of self-awareness.

Your brain dies, neurons stop firing, you are no more.

Oh - my question was one of honest sincerity.

Self-awareness is a curious leap in the shared biological animation we enjoy with other creatures.

I wonder what elevates an entity from stimulus->response to conscious adaptation...

Sure. Inevitable cellular decay/external stimuli create death.

What catalyzes consciousness, so that we may begin our "journey"?

I think consciousness is an epiphenomenon, so consciousness dies with the breakdown of the body. Since you're so into biology, couldn't you explain (self-)consciousness as an adaptive mechanism?
