Interestingly this is true.

However religions want to control trance for their own purposes.

For instance, the Mass is an exquisite trance induction. And a very tight rein is kept on how the Mass is to be performed and what it means.

Mystics though have learnt to induce their own trances for their own purposes, and this is a direct threat to the trance power of the churches, mosques and synagogues.

And as you point out, mystics tend to get short shrift from religion.
