How quickly do people get crazy and why does it take religious forms?
I was watching the movie The Mist earlier and I like it a lot, as an illustration of what crazy people do in a crisis, although how quickly have any of experienced people go crazy under pressure or in a crisis and does it take religious forms?
Never been in this situation personally. Maybe read accounts of the September 11th, 2001 stories on board the planes (especially the Pennsylvania one, more info on them) or similar situations. Also, glad you liked the movie.
People want order in chaos. Same recipe for eroding your rights. The charismatic person who speaks with absolute certainty has basically elected him/herself to decide matters. It's not always a terrible flaw in human psychology but it usually is.
