What you're describing is the authoritarian personality, unfortunately religion is a perfect channel for that person, they need subordinates to torture, tyrannise over or kill and superiors to submit to, this is true even of characters like Hitler, he was constantly saying that he was at the service of nation, volk, God, and didnt set himself up as a sole authority unto himself.
Those individuals are always suspiscious of others, even those that comply with them or submit to them or serve them, the subordinate class or caste or person, they always suspect that they are insincere and doubt that they want to be at their service, so their hatred and control freakery mounts in an unsustainable way, either the subject revolts or is destroyed and the sadistic-authoritarian type is then left without an object to manipulate and cant cope either. Its why every sadistic type is really a masochistic type too because they cant do without the person to torture and vent their control anxieties on.

To a degree, there is some truth in whay you say, but I said that because religion was originally designed to increase and harmony, but there are people who are willing to take advantage of naive people. I believe that it is the person that creates harmony or conflict because while religion drive them, but all people should accept the person's religious beliefs.

I think it creates more conflict. We see countries that follow the same religion fall into ethnic conflict and chaos depending on slight differences in interpretation. Syria is a good example. It's sunni's vs some other group who follows the same religion. Sad really.

One can ask then, if we consider religions without any interpretational disagreements? But that never happens does it. Even the world's most recent major religion Sikhism (has around 20Mn followers) have interpretation disagreements therefore different sects.

I think it would be better to emphasize on culture than religion. But there aren't many examples for it. Socialism in the soviet union was a good example. Something like that which is based on a political, social and individualistic cultural philosophy I believe could become a better uniting factor than religion.

----

How about French culture? It seems secular though extremely Frenchie biased. Secular capitalistic society with the right amount of socialism. Am I right EcK Blackmail!! Nara ?

----

I am not saying the French culture is like this -

Children should be taught (kinda brainwashed) in liberal democracy, secularism and all that Jazz at a very young age. Ethics, human rights, empathy with law should be taught too. Of course all of these are parts of the culture.

Oddly enough Islamic countries that were members in the former soviet union didn't adopt fanatical religious rule of law after the soviet union fell. This should imply to a certain extent my theory is workable.

However, the Russians are perhaps behind the secularist policies those Islamic countries currently follow.

Learn it from the Russians dear Americans.

Perhaps Afghanistan should have been controlled by the soviet union. This way Thalaiban would have been gotten rid of and there would have been secularist rule of law.

Depends on the religion and the individuals. Some religions are more prone on creating unity only for people of that religion, while trying to shame/judge others, which creates conflict. Some on the other hand see value in all people regardless of whether they share the same religious ideas.

Just wondering. I've always thought of religion as a means to unite people, and to help prevent people from acting "wrongly," but usually when I see religion applied to the masses, I see other things happening as well. Like someone using and twisting the ideals of a religion to suit their own selfish ends, or using religion to suffocate the people, or using religion (and people's faith in it) as a means to justify a BS war or the killing of many innocent people. So where do you stand, does it unite or does it create more conflict than it does good in the world?

I understand. All I can say is that man-made religion isn't perfect. Man is prideful. Power and money can go to one's head, but don't be discouraged by people like that. God IS love; it's supernatural love that sets people free. A love that never condemns or holds people captive. Man's pride may lead them to break the spirits of their fellow man and even kill, but that isn't from God. God's love heals people and sets people free.

I'm bewildered religion is used in this context. If there's another kind of religion out there - yes, two different archetype of religion would have opposing views - and yes, there would be conflict...

You're talking about religion twisted in one's mindset and I don't believe that's religion creating the war but the individual that made it up.
