I hate salesman. Never mistake that about this American at least.

I hate saleswoman too btw. Which is probably more telling.

Yes, Americans love to be persuaded. And Americans are most persuasive. Americans are so persuasive they even persuade themselves. This is necessary for it is essential to be able to sell oneself. And if we can sell ourselves, we can sell anything.

And Americans can persuade themselves of anything. No belief is too outlandish. No belief is too exotic. In fact astrology and mbti are the most quotidian of American beliefs.
No, on several counts. Propaganda is simply the deliberate spreading of (dis)information to manipulate. It differs from true persuasion in not requiring any semblance of logic or factual correctness. Its modern usage is almost exclusively negative. If one is describing the spreading of information in a positive or even neutral sense, one should use a different expression. Uncritical acceptance of the Bible is Americans' most widespread and unfortunate belief. Finally, Death of a Salesman is awful. Miller should have stuck to writing about witches.
I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...

For Catholics, he's the next best thing to God.

Not exactly. If there were "levels", saints play a special role after the Trinity. Starting with Mary.

The church is divided into three states... the "church militant" (those who live on earth) and "church triumphant" (those who reside in heaven and don't deal with the daily struggle of sin, etc. Especially saints and martyrs). Then there is the church "suffering" (purgatory). The Pope is to lead in prayer and good works, for the church militant. Most protestant denominations use similar terms (militant and triumphant), but don't think anyone really speaks for the church militant. And that everyone is more or less an equal in the church triumphant (saints and martyrs hold no prominence. Or rather, everyone is a saint).

I don't think that's the best way to explain his position.

Probably not, but that's the way I think of him (at least in terms of here on earth).

I think Pentecostals believe that more about their own leaders than the Catholics do the Pope. In Pentecostalism, God still grants great powers to the living. The "church triumphant" is HERE today, to wow and inspire you. The typical lay member gets miraculous superpowers like "clucking like a chicken" and "writhing on the floor like an infant", but preachers can knock down entire crowds with the wave of the hand, grow new limbs for amputees, and many other great signs and blessings. They rule megachurches in a completely top down manner, and allocate the tithes directly to themselves. The members believe this is a good thing, since the Prosperity Gospel teaches that money is a sign of God's love. So if you drive a lexus or live in a mansion, it means God loves you more than others. There is unquestioning faith in their leadership, even when the leader is blatantly screwing with them. The last time a pope (who was really just a Medici crimelord) got this out of line, millions of Catholics cried foul and formed different churches.

    Anyone mind enlightening me?
