Well... what do you believe it is?

And conversely, what is 'the greatest good'?

The greatest evil is to never have lived.
The greatest good is to never have died.

But we all live, and we all die, so the greatest of the greats are just myths.

Though, I'm apathetic..so....

the greatest evil is ambition, and it's cancerous.

Harming children is the greatest evil.

I am not sure the greatest good. I would say it varies depending upon a person's personality and abilities. Actually I like this:
Working toward your full potential, and helping others to do the same.

Denial of Jesus Christ the lord and your saviour... just kidding.

Denial of the seeking, accepting and implementing knowledge and understanding is the greatest evil.
The opposite is the greatest good.

The greatest evil is acting in the name of others. Yes, I believe this also includes mainstream religion in many cases. You help someone because you want to, not because jesus tells you to. If jesus tells you to, but you also want to, then that is fine. But with the threat of eternal damnation, one wonders how sincere it really is.

It would stand to reason the greatest good is the exact opposite of the greatest evil you name in this thread.

To impale someone through his/her anal orifice using a stake with a blunt end, plant the stake on the ground, and contemplate the person agonizing for 2 days straight.
I win.

How about doing that to a whole bunch of people, then taking your meals in the yard where they're dying.

Vlad the Impaler wins.

(though, to be honest, we could just list medieval tortures and the practices of more depraved serial killers and thugs in authoritarian regimes all day)

Good and evil don't exist, they're just arbitrary judgments we make after the fact. I would argue that it makes more sense to ask which actions cause the most harm and which are the most beneficial.

From there, I would say the action that causes the greatest harm is diffusing blame through group behavior. A simple example of this is a firing squad; several men shoot at a prisoner, but none have to take sole moral responsibility for the execution. One or two can even miss on purpose. The larger the group, the less need there is for individual moral decisions, and the easier it is to deflect blame for actions that are unambiguously harmful.

I would argue that this type of behavior is not sufficient but at least necessary for large scale harm (like wars and apathy to large scale suffering) to occur.

The greatest Evil was Knievel. What a man...

lol :)

There is no such thing as eternal damnation the concept does
not stand up to scrutiny under a good God. Burning for ever is
not a valid concept even for himler first and hitler second in modern
history. If you can imagine the pain of burning in total but not dying,
your flesh melting but reforming to keep the constant & stretching
beyond the bounds of time Universe and into the Universal then it is
not a viable punishment for anyone. I am in favour of a victim first
philosophy but do not extend this policy to thoughts of eternal human
ignition. Hell is not a valid concept and can only be used to somewhat
describe the lower levels of Heaven.

Should Himmler & Hitler and cronies burn if only for a minute ???????
This is an interesting notion to which i personally say yes if only for twenty
seconds. I believe in Justice but maybe I am falling into the realms of torture ?
I approve : The Well, One lash of the whip every six days, The stocks,
Buckets of icy cold water etc etc might seem inhumane but you reap what
you sow as the saying goes & these are major players in the death, torture &
rape market.

I always belive in making the Pope lick the Ass of a dog but that is not where
Heaven begins for these major players, New life begins on the Cross the reward
to a life of service in deceit.

I know how to get the pope off the cross but he would have to come and ask
me first.

you have posed a few very serious questions related to religion I am going to
have to answer my reply in segments.

I will say this though the book of Daniel is a complete load of human Sh*te with
concepts so idiotic that belief In such defies Crediable Belief itself.

I shall speak for the Almighty

Dan I EL, you Tw*t. See the twenty second ignition gains some ground.

dan reverse nad drop the s Nads. Which is exactly where he got a huge
kick when he was eventually brought down from the cross.

This type of behaviour is not inclusive to those who do not believe in
God. A good man was never Crossed or kicked for not believing, for faith
sometimes requires factual logic and different types have different logical,
ethical, spiritual barriers etc etc. I man can not be held responsible for his
natural state just the path he choose to follow & the infringment upon the
liberty of others based on such whims. A good man has such far found no
barriers upon his entrance to Heaven, the future shall speak for itself.

You have raised some very serious points as to the teachings, interpretations & portrail of the Word.

The greatest good: Elegant life-giving complexity alternatively love

The greatest evil: Non-reciprocal identity.

It is important to remember that a monk once asked Ummon, "What is Buddha?" To which he replied, "Kanshiketsu!"
