what do you base this on?
reciprocity in social animals networked through modern pop. density and connectivity + gradual spread of moral values (then again it also leads to civilization clashes and such so its just a trend that is counter by other forces) (then again what isnt)

and ps. read the op. the biblical quote is just your cliche superego VS ID/EGO classic paranoid guilt trip.
''god can see you while your peeing'

nah its just your emotions telling you something is 'wrong' because of culture and the evolutionary bases&imperatives it is built upon.
Its certainly a complicated thing but the quote is basically wishful thinking to keep people in check based on a limited amount of empirical observations. but its not magic, if ppl dissaprove of your actions it will impact your life, that's just how humanity is wired. Then again what is sin ? and what if u just move to a new place? (less efficacious nowadays due to communication)
if you all 'live in sin' in the eye of some guy at the other side of the planet then im sure he can convince himself that ur sins will catch up with u either by taking action or giving meaning to random suites of good/bad events and focusing on the 'bad' (and tagging it as such). Ultimately you WILL go to hell and all that shit so they re silly belief systems will be justified with magic and fairy dust

It's kind of quaint

If you rephrase it as "everything has its consequences" or "your weaknesses might be your downfall" it becomes a pretty obvious (and therefor unispiring) statement.

I tend to look upon consequentialism in human thinking as inspired, whether divinity comes into it or not I do think it is divine wisdom.

To me it seems to be saying that the bad things you do in your life tend to result in consequences that eventually (though in no specified time frame) do come back to affect you, in one form or another.

Which seems accurate to me, or at least to me own life experience...
