Love is a drug as much as anything else, or nothing else. It's a question of the mind-body duality. Every thought we have corresponds to a physical change in the brain. The neuroscience of consciousness can only examine those events and correlate them to thoughts, but they can't say which causes the other, or if they are even distinct from each other.
