If you really have to guess at it's meaning, chances are, it's pretty meaningless.

I agree Victor, but only if you're willing to cross it.

Yes, if we don't know what a metaphor is we need to build a bridge to reach the metaphor. And interestingly we use a metaphor to build a bridge to reach the metaphor. So we say, "A metaphor is a bridge or a bridge is a metaphor". We all know what a bridge is and so we carry that forward to understand the metaphor on the other side.

Of course, you are right, and some of us baulk at crossing the bridge, like a skittish pony. And those of us who baulk are called 'fundamentalists' and we prefer the literal interpretation rather than the metaphoric interpretation. And just like Detective Sergeant Joe Friday of the LAPD, we say, "Just the facts, Ma'am, just the facts".

ya that's a bunch of bullshit because it's all relative to the little box of his thinking which is mbti. he probably has no insight outside of that since he classifies his thoughts as "Te" instead of the actualy sub-concepts it represents. clings to a generalized concept. means he doesnt know wtf hes talkign about.

a metaphore is a bridge connecting a concept into words that doesnt define the concept, but as a whole direct the concepts deffinition on a unique level that couldnt have been done with defined words sepperatly. what.
