well they keep saying ''no'' in the movies. I don't believe that's true.
edit: i mean i dont believe that the standard ''no'' given by movie heroes to be realistic. The brain is nothing if not adaptable

Many a Nazi could attest to the fact that it does.

EDIT: If they're left. I don't think many Nazis are left, though.

Unfortunately I suspect it does.

I've been reading a book about neurological research done with the Dalai Lama in which they examine the cause and moderation of negative emotion. He happens to mention that Tibetan children are shocked and upset when someone kills a bug. I would like that to be my starting point and then hopefully not to get too desensitized over the course of a lifespan.

Thanks for posting the book, I was thinking of doing that a few minutes ago. Excellent read on the topic. The experts agree that yes, killing gets considerably easier. But the psychological costs remain high, and appears to be cumulative for many.

This is the kind of thread a serial killer with a dry sense of humor might like to cull names from.

Which part of Brazil did you say you lived in, again?
I heard it's beautiful there, this time of year....

*cough* No! It's actually pretty messy, with the arrangements for the World Cup and stuff, you know...:whistling:

Wouldn't that make it easier to hide in plain sight?

Edit: actual question:

I suppose it could get easier since there'll be more practice to devise better, more efficient methods. But a nagging conscience could also make it increasingly hard.

They dont say it in all the movies, in the John Rambo franchise they dont, in fact they make the point which is made in good real life writing about war and soldiers in war and that is that people DO adapt and can even get to liking killing too.

I'd imagine that it would. The biggest problem for me is the whole morality issue. If i could get over that hump...then who knows what I'd do?
