Don't get me wrong, I'm almost a technofetishist and science has always highly interested me. But, I often wonder the extent technology has actually helped us. Almost all of us live longer lives, but we may be destroying our planet. It seems every new advance is used to leverage destruction, going back to the discovery of agriculture and even earlier.

The situation reminds me of that magic number of dollars studies claim to say anybody needs to be happy. Did we only need some agriculture and some limits on reproduction, and could've we been as a species a lot happier than we are today? How can we qualify the ability to expand our numbers to the limits of our environment progress? How do we qualify the ability to do neat stuff progress? What use is advanced knowledge if we mainly apply it to short term gratification? What is so great about scientific progress?

EDIT: Just noticed the grammar issue in the title after I hit submit.. oh well.
