Ironically, I asked myself this the other day.

I'm not sure. I think I do more good alive than dead.

Unless being dead completely solved the problem.

Absolutely not, unless I was already old enough and had spread my genes.

In the age of terrorism I think its more likely that you'd wind up dying for someone else's two bit cause, unless the capitalist dirt bags get their way, then we'll all wind up dying because their sums dont add up. Still, it'll be our fault, their system is blameless or so they're oft prepared to spend a lot of time telling people.

I would, but it would be against my will or against my intentions

I can totally see myself standing up for something and then everything going terribly wrong. I remember once, I was reading about a bunch of hippies in Ohio protesting Vietnam or something and a bunch of them got shot and killed by the National Guard.

I could totally see myself getting offed like those poor bastards, but it wouldn't my goal.

If I believed in one strongly enough, yes.

Otherwise I reserve my future death for something way more movie worthy like my family or an endangered species or as a human shield to show how pointless war doing that is.

If my son were the cause, easily. If my country were being invaded, absolutely. Beyond that, only by accident in that sometimes, in the moment action happens. Given time to reconsider, probably not.

Sidenote, in the age of not-terroism, I think its more likely that you'd wind up dying for someone else's two bit cause.

Think about every conflict and cause that has ever occurred on this planet.

The haves will never fight or die when there are so many have-nots around

And I totally am registered for the draft

I'm not sure you've met a lot of socialists Elfboy, this is less to do with being a socialist and more to do with being someone who grew up in northern ireland before the peace process and with the continued prescence of paramilitaries and their causes.

interesting, you seem to be interested in the abuse of power. may I ask what in a socialist society would prevent governmental abuse of power when they are able to amass such large amounts of money?

The government is made of people with a vested interest in their society

only so long as the people are able to control the government and not the other way around. do you honestly think most politicians go into politics because they want to serve humanity?

I believe that they believe they are serving humanity

You're missing the point though

The government is people

Terrorist is people

Soylent green is people
