That sentence is funny. To be fighting against something, means fighting for the opposite.

But I understand what you mean. And in that sense, I agree, I too find myself going against the grain more often than not.

No, I think its sometimes possible to resist something without having a will or need to replace it with an alternative, you know?

You could be fighting aggression without any goal other that resisting aggression, I know that some people would want to be positively campaigning somehow in a fight like that, so they'll be fighting a particular sort of aggression, ie capitalist, socialist, nationalist, religious aggression, and see themselves as a fighter for socialism, capitalism, internationalism, secularism, but I dont think I need that so much.

I wouldn't defend my town. I would defend the people I hold valuable.

No, not the town I live in currently. I would go to ground, if I could. Fact is I'd probably be cooped up in the hospital, doing my bit for the wounded. A bit of sucker like that. Plus I could contribute more with my skills in that way, than I could picking up a weapon. Not that I have issues with that.

They are rallying to the towns defence. My question is would you do this? I dont know that I would, if I could look after my immediate family's safety in some way other than defending to town I dont think I would.

It could be me and just not liking the town I've grown up in and issues unique to this part of the world like sectarianism and social class composition but I wonder if this is widespread. Is the US different?
Never watched Jericho but I've watched another show that was similar and I think that in that kind of situation it may be good move to participate in the defense of a town, although I wouldn't feel any sense of patriotism or compulsion, really depends on which option is going to most beneficial to me. If the next town over decided to attack my hometown today? No... that's nuts.

Not really, although I'd fight for my home-nation.

I'd sell out my home town for a few pennies.
