Well, first of all I would point out that power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. And that this applies to me as well as anyone else. So I would write a Constitution that limits power, including my own.

But notice I wouldn't abolish power, I would merely limit it.

That sounds like a very logical course of action. :)

power doesn't corrupt, it reveals true character. for instance, the reason most people are not corrupt is because they would get punished for it, much like a child, but those who are trully disciplined and wise would not become corrupt. to say that power would corrupt anyone is a blatant over generalization.
Edit: that being said, I much agree with how you would rule

I'd solve der Judenfrage once and for all.

Distribution of power is for weak-willed men without any ambitions. I'd rule with the advice of councils consisting of experts of various fields backing my decisions - a technocratic dictatorship, you could call it.

Dictatorship with the underpinnings of a quasi-socialist government.

Vote for think tank raised issues.

Free:
  • Healthcare.
  • Education to grade 12. Stringent standards for undergrad and post-grad where basket weaving is not available unless paid by individual.
  • Necessary commodities like heat, water and electricity for individuals up to a maximum, then pay per unit of usage. Businesses must pay.
  • Public transport.

Other quick and dirty thoughts:
  • Trade deficits per country are not allowed and trade will be spread across many, many countries.
  • Outsourcing is penalised through tax surcharges per employee.
  • All three tiers of industry (primary, secondary and tertiary) will be set for equal percentages ensuring self-sufficiency.
  • Too large to fail will not be allowed.
  • Global conglomerates will not be allowed.
  • Small businesses will be encouraged through small business loans from Central banking at discounted interest rates.
  • Flat taxation with no loopholes.

As far as I can tell "power" is a very strange thing. It can never be abolished, only deferred to someone else.

We know that once we get the politics right, most other things follow along. Or we might say, once we get power right, most other things follow along.

And we have been getting the politics and so power right for one hundred and fifty years.

So what is our secret?

It's that we limit power.

Because limiting really means sharing, verdad?

No, I mean, were you going to say "iron fist" in relation to him, or were you just going to use the expression?

Also, who are you calling short?! :ng_mad:

I was going to use the expression for fun, but having an iron fist like Ed isn't bad... just... his shortness.

He needs to "drink more milk." :D

More thoughts:
  • No social safety nets.
  • Banking will be government run.
  • Investment firms will not be allowed to dabble in banking.
  • Insurance firms will require sufficient capitalisation using a realistic risk adjusted capital formula.
  • No government employee pensions.
  • If anyone hasn't figured this out, no political parties.

Well it looks like its a rich mans paradise without political opposition. An inversion of the USSR. At least in terms of its economics.
Lark, read it again without bias or at least try to understand the points made.

I'd probably cut down heavily upon the "service economy", speculation and other paper-based assets.
We have most of these (sorry...) useless jobs (too many decorators and nail polish salons) because women stopped being homemakers not too long ago, and we need to come to terms with that and get women to work in manufacture, construction and process industry instead.
That produces real wealth instead of made up wealth that we are so dependent on today. That's why stuff is going to hell all over.
I'm all fine with women wanting to stand on their own legs and be free, but you have to start working for it. If you are, then awesome. Most aren't.

The result of women starting to work was that salaries were almost cut in half over time, so that you'll now need to be two in a household instead of one to live a decent life.
And don't even get me started on the part where westerners don't have nearly enough kids anymore because it's not possible for career people.
While we got some equality, it's hardly all that good. The only thing it tells us is that most jobs just doesn't contribute anything REAL to society.
But that can be cured and individual salaries can go back to what they were if we dump the crap that's just not necessary. PLEASE, fixing nails is a hobby and nothing else.
Same thing with the investment banking and general speculation in the stock market. It's just a house of cards, and one shouldn't build nations on that.
Nations should be built on raw materials, process industry, manufacture, farming, justice and equality.

Not to mention that too many people are kept alive with artificial means costing society hundreds of billions.

Another thing that happened as a result of a doubled work-force when women got their freedom was that administration jobs were invented for all sorts of crap, and it costs A LOT.
People turning papers... Surprise surprise... Does not produce shit.

Just saying, this is one of our greatest modern problems in the west. I'm really surprised nobody talks about it at all.

You think that because I disagree with you I dont understand your points?

Its not me that has the bias. There's nothing wrong with wanting a rich mans paradise if that's what you want but dont pretend its something different from what it is. Be honest with yourself.
