LOL. I once sarcastically said to my ESTJ boss that from this day forth, I will refrain from expressing personal opinions in social settings unless I can recite sources of support on demand. He nodded approvingly for a moment.

If it was wrong to express an opinion on the internet and you were asking me to give my opinion on whether or not I thought that was wrong, I would be wrong.

    So yes, it's okay.

Actually, you would only be perceived by him as acting wrongly if your opinion was not the same as his opinion. So, if he believes it is wrong to express opinions other than his own, then you have just acted wrongly.

I'm all for free speech and people expressing opinions on the Internet. I only see it as a problem when people's purpose behind it is for malicious intent- such as trolling or getting pleasure from offending others.

Are you asking if discussion is a good thing? If so I would say that discussion is always good, in this respect I am off a mind with Burke and Mill that it is always a good thing inorder to establish truth and in order to defend truth.

Your interpretation is legit/logical, my question also addresses the play of devil's advocat, pertaining to the position displayed by many, throught the times ( recent events also come to mind). While the discussion is positive, derailing into paranoid defensive kneejerk reactions is far from it, and this grasp seems to be lacking plentyful.

That's nothing new surely, there's people trolling these forums who're just looking to provoke that sort of thing too because they dont have anything to contribute.

I posted recently in what I thought it was a topical discussion, I maybe shouldnt have bothered because it was someone who I had on ignore for good reason, anyway, turns out they were using it as an opportunity to poke fun at peoples posting habits. So I deleted my post.

If there's going to be so much "for the lolz" behaviour and people treating the threads like private sand boxes then there'll be less people bother posting at all. That's not discussion, hard to know what it is.

I was going to crack a joke....but people are being semi serious.
Isn't the Internet fueled by vacuous opinions? I'm mean that's why people utilize it as the last bastion of free speech, because it's safe to have your politically incorrect opinion posted on there.
That and the energy generated from pointless debate.

It's not wrong. But it's naive to expect that it won't bring any tension . It does IRL. People come here with different values, different backgrounds, are in different moments in life.

They have different aims. They are not necessary looking for the truth. They may be hoping for consolation. They may be looking for advice - in that case it's necessary to look at the situation with their eyes and operate in that framework. The question is: is it allowed to come to a forum not only to discuss objective theories? Yes/no.
