Stop blaming everything on Communism. Looks like you misunderstood me, but I'm no fan of Communism - I'm completely neutral, in fact. It's not Communism itself that's hurting Chinese people, it's the people with power - Communism is a CONCEPT, a THEORY that actually has little to do with the idea of oppressing people. The definition of Communism originally centers on property rights, not oppression. I really wish Americans would look deeper into Communism before getting all rowdy about it.

Ideas have consequences, and the (unsurprising) consequences of attempting to implement communism have been pretty consistent. One would think a Korean would have better understanding than most on this point, but I guess not.

As for no one being oppressed in China....we must have drastically different notions as to what constitutes 'oppression'; to name the most obvious victims, there are Christians, Tibetan Buddhists, Falun Gong practioners, democracy supporters, people who would actually kind of like to write or say what they want without fear of police-state persecution, anybody who wants to have more than one or two kids....

I guess people who don't consider what the aforementioned groups (as well as others) go through to be 'oppression' disturb me.

Tell me, what constitutes of implementing Communism? The only thing that Communism implies (according to its purest definition anyway) is that all property belongs to the government. But alas, we do have private property rights here, as the Chinese economy is Capitalist.

Before implementing Capitalism in China, Deng Xiaoping (Communist, mind you) said, "No matter if it is a white cat or a black cat; as long as it can catch mice, it is a good cat." As long as Capitalism helps China flourish, China will readily accept Capitalism.

Christians? There are thousands of churches in China. Among hundreds of Christians I ever got to know in China, none were disadvantaged in any way. Same deal with democracy supporters (unless they're openly, directly protesting against the government in masses - even then, most people will not be punished beyond paying a fine).

Only (groups of) people who are openly and directly opposed to the government and have the power to spread words are persecuted. No matter what you truly believe, as long as you aren't making a scene in the streets with lots of "comrades" (heh), you're safe. No one will touch you.

Anyhow, what I meant to say was no one's being oppressed due to Communism itself. Besides, heaps of Chinese people go around pretty much everything you put down there just by paying a sum of money. It's only the "bad stuff" that gets aired anyway... rules are pretty inconsistent and bendable in China, that I will admit.

How?
The only reason I really dislike Communism is that it promotes a certain level of power in the government that is easily abused. Otherwise, the concept itself is a wonderful one: everyone gains from the government holding all of the property and theoretically distributing it equally, meaning that no one is in a state of poverty and everyone has what they need.

And as for what disturbs me is apathy. A totality of unfeeling is something I have had nightmares about.

Communism doesn't involve a government. You're thinking of Socialism.

They may not be completely aligned but they both desire control. And a lot of communist country's in the past have had dictators. So I think what I said is justified :p

How can a political theory "desire control"?

Communism, properly understood, does not involve any government, and certainly not a dictator. There has never been a Communist government or state, and indeed there cannot be: Communism is as much an ideology about statelessness than it is about classlessness. That certain tyrants of the past have declared themselves communists is clearly irrelevant to this.

What you wrote makes absolutely NO SENSE to me. And it sounds more like your own personal opinion than anything. If communism is an "idea" your basically saying its theoretical and doesn't exist. And if you don't believe it exists than I think you need help, or to seriously dig into history.

Lets see how the many ways a political party can desire control.

Gun control
Banning Abortion
Taxes (the federal reserve)
Making it illegal to not have health insurance
Banning circumcision
Banning Gay Marriage
Banning certain breeds of dogs

These are examples of what takes away from my freedom. When you take away freedom you are seeking control.

It disturbs me when someone else desires to control anyone else other than themselves. It disturbs me how most people in my age group either don't want to get involved with politics, or they are liberal. It disturbs me how so many Americans are illiterate and I meet people who don't know who Hitler is, or what the holocaust is. It disturbs me that so many people are refusing to vaccinate their children.

My understanding is common, and completely uncontroversial.

If Communism isn't a political theory, what else is it? A type of doughnut, perhaps?

And if you don't believe it exists than I think you need help, or to seriously dig into history.

I don't believe any current society is communist, though there may be an obscure tribe somewhere which proves me wrong. I cannot think of any historical society which has been communist.

Also, I recommend you don't insult me further: you'll elicit an identical reaction from me, only my insults will upset you.

Maybe communism in its purist form has never been fully implemented. But to say it doesn't exist currently and never has existed is insane and your personal opinion. Nazi Germany, the former soviet union, the state of Iraq before bush declared war, China (currently), and maybe even Venezuela for is up for debate. And I wasn't insulting you, I was just giving you some much needed advice :) but I'll be the bigger person and say I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.

Jelly, not meaning to gang up here. But Helio's ideas are, as he stated, 'not controversial' and on top of that pretty much accepted by people interested in the subject and far from just being personal opinion.
